Brunei Darussalam – The Abode of Peace - is located in the heart of ASEAN. Equipped with rich natural resources it ranks 5th in per capita GDP*1. Beyond its traditional industry in petrochemicals Brunei Darussalam has been promoting a diversification of its economy. The usage of GNSS and other GeoSpatial solutions is expected to increase productivity and efficiency.
This year’s conference main theme will be "GeoSpatial Challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region" thereby broadening the beyond GNSS to include related technologies and application including remote sensing and big data analysis relevant for South East Asian countries. For the first time this year an industrial session with experts from European and Asian countries will introduce new products and services with the aim to create business opportunities between participants. As in previous years, technical trends in Multi-GNSS, potential GNSS applications in the region, activity reports from MGA participants, progress reports on the joint experiments, and MGA future activities will be also presented.
Additionally, the Survey Department of the Ministry of Development in Brunei Darussalam will sponsor and organize an excursion on 10th December.

Session Scope :
Industrial Session/ GNSS.asia South East Asia Industry Seminar
As several Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are emerging and multi-GNSS applications are rapidly gaining importance, international collaboration in the GNSS scene has become vital.
GNSS.asia, financed under the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, provides a comprehensive range of hands-on support services to GNSS industry enterprises in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, assisting them to develop mutually beneficial commercial activities and establish concrete industrial collaboration. Aimed at stimulating cooperation between European and Asia-Pacific GNSS industry, this GNSS.asia South East Asia Industrial Seminar encompasses presentations by key industry players and institutional actors from both the EU and Asia-Pacific.
・Highlight international cooperation opportunities in (multi-)GNSS
・Present applications for challenges specific for South East Asia
・Showcase examples of GNSS entrepreneurship (GNSS.asia Challenge)
・Present international cooperation possibilities via the GNSS.asia platform
・Provide details about upcoming GNSS.asia events
・Provide unique network opportunities with key GNSS companies
Latest trends in GNSS Technology
In the session "Latest trends in GNSS Technology" experts from Europe, Japan and South East Asia will share their experience in the development of GNSS applications in different domains. From Resilient Navigation to Precise Positioning, for RTK to GNSS Reflectometry, international experts will discuss about the latest achievements in the field of multi-GNSS applications.
WG-A: Precise Positioning (Prof. Noboru Noguchi, Hokkaido Univ.)
"Precise Positioning" Working Group (WG) aims to bring together scientists, engineers, students and others working in the GNSS related area around the world to share their latest results in terms of GNSS applications. In particular, the WG focuses on precise positioning applications in terms of agriculture, mining, construction, surveying, etc. The technologies addressed in the WG include precision agriculture, machine control, automation, and robotics.
The WG discussion will provide an opportunity for learning the state-of-the-art and to discuss past achievements; and also give future directions in precise positioning by multi-GNSS.
WG-B: Disaster Mitigation and Management (Prof. Teruyuki Kato, Univ. of Tokyo)
This session tries to discuss how multi GNSS contribute to mitigate and manage natural disasters, as Asia is a showcase of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods, etc. Central interest of the session is how multi GNSS can sense ground motion, sea surface variations, atmospheric and ionospheric disturbances, as precise as possible in real time. Moreover, effective system of disaster mitigation and management based on thus obtained data should be prepared for the expected natural disasters. Innovative science and technology are necessary for such system. Presentations on any idea, plan or on-going project for disaster mitigation and management are welcome.
WG-C: Intelligent Transportation System (Mr. Satoshi Kogure, JAXA)
Many countries in Asia Pacific region are facing heavy traffic congestion issue due to concentration of the population in large cities. We can see huge traffic jams in Bangkok, akarta, Hanoi, Manila and other mega cities in the region and it causes air pollution, increment of CO2 emission. ITS WG will discuss how GNSS and its related technologies could contribute to mitigate this kind of problem. Some actual experiment results such as Probe car/motorcycle for traffic information gathering in Bangkok, road pricing based on GNSS in Singapore are to be shared and further demonstration idea and opportunity will be planned among participants. In addition, ITS World Congress 2016 will be held in Melbourne. The WG can be a good opportunity to talk about the demonstration or presentation idea at the event as well.
Geospatial Challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region
Traditionally, technologies such GNSS, geoinformation, remote sensing and mapping have been considered standalone domains. Today, however, increasingly demanding user requirements and diverse accuracy needs have rapidly pushed for the development of integrated geospatial applications. In parallel to this evolution, the ecosystem of application areas has swiftly broadened as well, stretching far beyond traditional domains such as surveying or land management. This new generation of geospatial applications can play a key role in addressing challenges faced simultaneously by numerous countries in the Asia-Pacific region, in areas such as climate change, disaster management, agriculture, infrastructure management or the exploitation of natural resources.
・Showcase examples of geospatial applications and their potential in addressing challenges specific to the Asia-Pacific region
・Explore opportunities for international cooperation between geospatial stakeholders, both regional and cross-continental
・Facilitate networking and stimulate exchange between public institutions, industry, research institutes and user community in the geospatial domain
・Offer an international platform for the exchange of best practice in a broad set of domains and application areas

In the exciting river safari, you might imagine yourself in the Amazon forest as you ride in an open boat through thick mangrove swamps and nipa palms, listening to the distinct sounds of birds singing, insects chirping and the calls of monkeys in the quiet and peaceful surroundings.
If you are lucky you will be able to observe some proboscis monkeys (found only in Borneo), migratory birds, flying squirrels, flying foxes and iguanas.
The early European visitors to Brunei named this the “Venice of the East” and Kampong Ayer or the Water Village continues to be a popular attraction to tourists and local alike.
